What We Need Now

What We Need Now

The electronic church, with its elaborate communication and production systems, professional artists, and hefty budgets often influences our opinion of spiritual success. In our local services we catch ourselves comparing the performance of all singers and ministers to our favorite recording group or popular preacher. On a scale from one to ten, we seldom rate the local ministries higher than six.

The most powerful attraction of the Church, however, is not expertise, talent  or equipment but the presence of the Holy Spirit. No one can duplicate the glory of God! God’s anointing cannot be bought, cannot be taught, cannot be manufactured. Simon the sorcerer marveled at God’s blessing on Paul’s ministry and requested the same power. When anointed men and women have ministered to us, we too have marveled and been guilty of wishing for power as Simon did.

Our need, though, is for God, himself—not power. Christ promised that his disciples would receive power after the Holy Spirit came upon them. When we are willing to let God fill us with himself, His power will flow naturally from our lives, saturating our ministries with His presence.
