Pyramid Builder

Pyramid final

These are days, Lord,

when I feel so little progress

toward fulfilling your purpose in my life.

I feel as if I’m a slave,

who must go each day to my place on the pulling line.

I have a place

where I lean my shoulder into the straps and

pull all day long to move an enormous block of stone a few inches.

I can see the pyramid ahead in the gritty haze.

I know this block is important to the finished product, but

all I see is another day in the harness with

the driving,

biting,

searing sand.

No matter how great the project,

No matter how determined I am to stay the course,

My humanity cries, “I cannot take another step.”

Through the haze, though, I see a faded sign. Decades ago, an arthritis-crippled woman leaned from her wheelchair to post a sign along this path…

“When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources,
Our Father’s full giving is only begun”

He Giveth More Grace by Annie Johnson Flint

“For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer…and the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from trials….” (I Peter 3:12; II Peter 2:9 NIV ed.)
