I thought the “shield of faith,” Scotchguarded TM by love, would protect me from most storms.
My shelter, ribbed with mercy and grace, gave assurance of safety.
I had faith that Life’s Big Ones would
leave my shelter unscathed.
BUT the Big Ones lashed my life as cruelly as it did other lives.
When event-named storms threatened to yank Faith from my hands, and
Unprepared-for gusts turned long-held beliefs wrong-side out,
I found that faith in faith was not enough.
Faith must be staked to reality, not desires or hoped-for dreams.
Enduring faith must be staked and secured to Rock with:
TRUTH – God’s eternal unchanging Word
SALVATION – Trust in Christ for forgiveness of sins
RIGHTEOUSNESS – Right living in an unrighteous world
The shield of faith is not a
grab-from-the-closet, pop-open-with-the-flick-of-a-thumb shelter.
The shield of faith is a
daily staking-to-eternal-promises canopy that Big Ones cannot shred.
We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love.
