Sunrise and Sunset

sunrise and bridge

Surely you send us the sunrises to remind us of your faithfulness.
You will be with us through the day.

Surely you send us the sunsets to remind us of your lovingkindness.
You have been with us through the day.

Surely you display the stars and moon at night to give assurance that
You will be with us through the night.

Because of the Lord’s great love … his compassions never fail. They are new every morning.     It is good to praise the LORD…proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night. (Lamentations 3:22,23; Psalm 92:1,2 NIV)

Stained Glass

The pieces of our lives vary in cut,
in polish, in color,
in ability to conduct or reflect Your light.
Only You can arrange the pieces so that
the whole assembled picture exalts You.
Help me not to trim and push the pieces
to make them fit as I think they should.

On this day when all the pieces of my life
seem to be a jumbled mess,
I take my hands off
and ask you to create a pane that
reflects Your love and glory.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 NIV

Maître d’

To be quite honest,

You are teaching me more about being a servant than I really wanted to know.

When I volunteered to serve, I had in mind a maître d’ position,
I wanted to greet people at the door with a Jesus-loves-you smile and
assure them that they would have a blessed experience.

I wanted to be the one who murmured  “Don’t thank me. It was all God,” when they expressed their gratitude for my service at the end of the evening.

To be quite honest

This is not what I had in mind when I said I wanted to serve You.

You poked me out of sight, behind swinging doors.

As your committed servant, You know that I don’t mind working hard for You in this sweltering chaos, but this – this hiding of my servant hood from others – is definitely not what I had in mind.

Couldn’t You at least fasten a brass plate to the kitchen door with my name on it and the words “Devoted Cook and Bottle Washer”?

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24 NIV
